GREYSON 8-18-99 to 10-22-05

Many of you knew him as Vern, we called him Greyson after the cyber dog on the GEM site, and because he was grey and he was my son!

I knew he was my soul dog from the first time I saw him! On our first visit to see if he was a good fit with us my mom went, and as soon as we walked in the door he stood on his hind legs put his front paws on her shoulders and gave her a kiss. I wanted to take him home right then! We had to wait a couple of days before we went back to get him but it seemed like weeks to me. Finally on January 9, 2002 he was all mine!

He loved to run in the snow, walk to the Dairy Queen, steal stuffies, snuggle on the couch, and talk. Boy could he talk, and rooo, he could rooo with the best of them. When our friend Kevin would come over they would have roooing contest that would last forever.

We brought him home a little brother in June of 03, a three-month-old black lab (Molson). The two of them became inseparable.

On June 29, 2005 we took him to the vet for a knot on his left front leg. We were told to bring him back in two weeks to see if it had gotten any bigger. It did. Dr. Oliver (Trenton Vet) told us he thought it might be cancer (osteosarcoma) and informed us of our options. I couldn’t bear the thought of loosing him in two months if we didn’t amputate his leg. On July 22, 2005 he went in for surgery, it took five and a half-hours. When the vet called to tell me he was STANDING a half of an hour after surgery and it was successful I wanted to rush down there to be with him! I was supposed to pick him up at noon the next day, so when the phone rang at 9am and I saw the vet’s name on the caller ID I was scared something happened during the night. Much to my suprise he was ready to come HOME!

He was doing great until three weeks ago when he fell on the hardwood floor. His hind legs kept getting weaker, we had to pick him up to go outside or to get up on the couch in his favorite spot. We were at the vets twice that week to get x-rays and blood work done. Everything came out normal. His legs started to swell so back to the vet we went. On Saturday October 22, 2005 at 11am I had to do the hardest thing in my life, I had to tell Dr. Oliver it was time to let him go. He laid on his pillow with his head in my lap and I held him and told him it would be all right. I love you Greyson, there will never be another dog to mend my broken heart.
