PD Tank
Tank is an escaped prisoner from the TGIE program. The sounds and activity of prison life were not for him, so he packed up his bindle, lulled the guards to sleep, and headed out on the road to carve out a better life for himself. That’s when he found his foster family.
Tank was quick to show his new family how innocent he truly was. He is a naturally gregarious and fun-loving guy. There is not a mean bone in his body. His foster brother and sister sometimes get grumpy with his energetic ways, but he licks both of their faces, and they deal with it. Tank enjoys playing with squeaky toys and doing speed laps in the backyard at least once a day. He loves his foster people and greets them every time they come home with a hearty, “ WoooWoooo!” It’s his way of saying he is extremely happy and excited. He does this when we meet new people on walks, too.
Tank enjoys his walks, and he is very good on a lead. He pulls just a little in the beginning, but that’s more from excitement than anything. He is easy to re-direct and he is very compliant. We have trained him to “stay” when we open the door or gate to go on a walk, and he is very good about doing so. He is very easily hurt emotionally if he is corrected and will hangdog his way to you to apologize. He loves meeting others on walks, especially kids. He will wash their face clean if they let him. We feel he would be great with kids, but would suggest school-age kids because he can bowl them over if he gets excited. We haven’t seen that, but we would anticipate it. He loves attention and affection and he reciprocates both.
He should be considered cat workable. We have introduced him to our cats, and while he is curious, he is also tentative about getting near them. He would probably be fine with a small dog if introduced correctly. He has been introduced to a neighborhood Lab and a friend’s beagle and had no problems. He is struggling with steps. He can go up one or two, but to get him to the second floor, patience and a paw by paw ascension is necessary. He is perfectly fine going back down, though. With work and practice, I’m sure this will improve.
He still startles at loud noises and usually skitters across the linoleum floor, but he will walk on the floor…quickly, usually. We would recommend a belly band until he is fully acclimated to a new home. He crates well, and can often be found lounging in his crate, even though every pillow is available in the home. He knows his name well and responds well when called. He tolerates nail care well.
Tank is a truly delightful boy. Darn near perfect. He will make his forever home a better place to be with his presence.
