Its Skywalker
Indy sunning himself with his toy – his favorite summer pasttime was snoozing in the sand.
Indy was our first greyhound and he was absolutely perfect for us. We fell in love with him the first time we met and spent the next week in eager anticipation of picking him up from his foster family. We signed the adoption papers and took him home on February 13, saying to ourselves that he was the perfect Valentine’s day gift for both of us. Immediately Indy bonded more to me than Kevin making our first obedience class a bit of a trial for them. Indy would do everything for me and look at Kevin like he was crazy. One night Kevin said he was giving up. Indy would be my dog and that was fine. I could keep going to class but he was done as the dog wouldn’t ever listen to him. Indy was sitting on the couch during Kevin’s speech. At the end, Kevin calmed down and said he’d try one more time. The next time he called Indy over to work with him, Indy did everything perfectly. I couldn’t stop laughing. From that day on really, Indy became Kevin’s dog. He was his late night pal – staying up with him in the living room long after Twister & I had gone to bed, playing tug and catch with stuffies, and often snuggled on the couch together when Kevin fell asleep.
We nicknamed him Indy-roo as he rooed for just about everything. He didn’t roo at all until we’d had him about 6 months. And as time went on, he decided it was a good idea for when he was excited to see you, wanted to go outside, NEEDED scratchies, dinner was late, or if he was protesting what you were asking him to do. Over the 2.5 years we were lucky enough to have him in our lives, his personality never stopped evolving. The only constant was he was perhaps the laziest greyhound we’d ever met. We often joked he was our senior in a 4, 5, 6 year old body. He was I believe a very old and wise soul for his 6 years. He was amazingly intuitive and always showed so much expression in his face. He was our endlessly patient boy. He knew when it was dinner time that bouncing around wouldn’t rush it, so he’d sphinx in the hall, calmly waiting. Same thing for walks, car rides, etc. He was always looking at the other dogs like he didn’t understand why they didn’t get it. We had looked forward to many years with Indy… We had so many plans that included our boy. Our lives will never be the same without him. He was taken from us far too young but we wouldn’t have missed the time we did have with him for anything. Because of him our home will always have greyhounds – it wouldn’t be complete without.
We love you Indy-roo.
