Vedette came to us off the track after initially staying with another foster family for a few days while we were out of town. She did very well with the other greyhounds. She came to our home (condo) as the only pet with both of us working full time. She has adjusted very well to being the only pet and seems to be crating fine while we are at work during the day for about 9 hours. A dog walker comes in at lunch to give her a 30 minute walk and a potty break. Although she does generally very well on a leash, she does get fixated on squirrels and bunnies. We are working on a firm “leave it, let’s go” with positive reinforcement when she cooperates. She does seem to be an active greyhound and will walk 2-3 miles per day on leash since we don’t have a fenced yard for her. (We take several walks during the day to accumulate the total.) She does her business on leash quite nicely. She’s had no accidents in the house. She will quietly lay in her crate if we have company over for dinner. Although she is very social and loves the attention of all people. She definitely enjoys giving kisses and wagging her tail. I think she would do well with older children as she can be a bit bouncy and might knock very young ones down. We’ve encountered some smaller dogs on our walks and although she is very interested at first, she does seem to lose interest once we get close or if they bark at her. She really enjoys playing with a squeaky toy and chewing on a bone. At night she sleeps on a dog bed in our bedroom. We’ve had very few problems with her awaking during the night but will lay right back down once you tell her. We only showed her one time how to use the stairs and now goes up and down like a pro. She had no issues with fireworks or thunderstorms at all. She seems very laid back, yet very curious to learn more about the world around her. They were calling her Vi for short, but we prefer Violet since she is sweet and beautiful like a flower! She will make a wonderful companion.
